I arrived at 9:50 and finally made it to the RER train to the city center. Mental note...you cant use an american credit card to buy a train ticket at the automatic machine...nor can you use paper money. The exchange counter got me for 2euro because they made me buy a map (i already have one:( to get euro coins. I'll remember next time.
Soon after getting on the train, I looked at the map to figure out a plan of what I will do until 9pm (that is when I meet Olivier for the apartment key--he is visiting his sister in the south of France--i am surfing/renting his apartment for 300 euro until Jan. 10th) when I get a text message...thank goodness...this bag is heavy. Olivier has arranged for me to go to his friend Muriel's apartment to drop my bags and another Swiss couch surfer will bring an extra key there later today. I arrive at her stop at the metro and as I pop my head up from underground, there is L' Arch de Triomphe right in front of me. This is the view from the metro station.
